Refinished floor
The scratches the floors endured plus the prolonged schedule led our contractor to repair the floors by having them sanded down and refinished for the living room. Along with that we went ahead and had three spots replaced which had
1. a poor patch and broken boards
2. a water stain from a plant or something - ziggy was exonerated. I thought it had been an overlooked pee stain left in her 'executive pisser' but the floor guy said he would have smelled it when they sanded it down.
3. some other spot
You'll also noticed that the pool table is gone. We donated it to a VFW post in south Austin, or possibly to some scam artists, depending on whether or not I receive that donation receipt. I think they're legit, and will get good use out of the table. It was funny when I heard the old vets and crew arrive. Some crunching and grinding, along with someone gunning the gas, led me to look outside where I watched an old guy try to back up the driveway. The only problem was he was about 5' off to the right and trying to go through my 65 gallon recycling bin and over my corner flower patch. A good divot was dug in the yard, and the once rectangular bin was now squished. I tried to tell him to make a big loop around the block, but he misunderstood and made a 5 point turn in the busy intersection by the house. Nothing terrible though, and luckily the recycling truck's robotic grabber arm scrunched the can back into shape.
So the floors look great, I painted the trim, but will touch up some more. The GC installed the cabinet knobs and pulls, and installed the microwave, stove and fridge. We've been eating like college days, MV food galore. And notice the Christmas tree that we cut down at the farm*.
Just a few things left, with hopes of a finished kitchen by next Friday! The main things being the granite, dishwasher and backsplash.
*this blog is somewhat boring due to lack of pictures. We'll need to address our maxed out storage space with google and load the pics of the floor, and of the tree.

PAINT!
The good news about having a painter pass out in your kitchen is you subsequently get your living room painted....for free!
We chose tame teal, I nice light blue green which I am in love with! So much so that we decided to pay the painters to also paint the ceiling and the kitchen. Feeling like the colors needed to be a little crazier, we chose a bright peach. It may seem weird but I found these great curtains....give it some time! I really love it.
Scrambletron also got some more reno in this past weekend. Bear and I attended a lovely wedding in Galveston so Ziggy went to the hotel for dogs that is my sister-in-law's house. At some point she was shut in the garage and decided the only way to make the best of it was to destroy a little of the garage drywall. For good measure she pooped on the floor. Needless to say, my sister-in-law really, really, loves having Scrambles over.
At this point I feel like I am going crazy in my own home. Expecting something to happen with the granite this week was obviously overly optimistic of me. As it turns out, the fabricator has eight jobs lined up. To make matters worse, it takes up to five days to fabricate the granite (optimistic?). That would put the fabricator eight weeks out from being at our house. I guess the bright side is that our GC is looking for another fabricator with less jobs...my question, why are so many people getting granite at this exact time? and in this economy?!
Somehow the progress seems to be regressing.

Huffing some paint and hanging out at Zilker
I was pretty stoked to get this past Friday off for Austin City Limits Music Festival...that was until I got home. That was where I found our painters barricaded in the kitchen with fumes so strong that I couldn't walk into the house. The front door was open, but not one single window in the entire house was open. I wondered if these guys ever even used oil paint before. I looked at the guy and said "no window" to which his reply was a smile and a "Hi". I decided it was best to not hang out in the fumes so I opened the windows and went to the back yard. Fast forward to 8:00 pm, painters still in the house, and me and Bear start hearing loud bangs coming from
the kitchen. Concerned, Bear went in only to find the painter laid out on the floor in the kitchen. After several attempts to get them to leave the contractor was called who then drove to our house and then drove the painters home. The incident left us with half primed cabinets, a small hole in the wood floors, some craizily rigged paint sprayer extension, and a house that could get you high on paint in a matter of 60 seconds.
After a discussion with our contractor where we had to explain that to paint with oil paint you open windows, the cabinets are on there way to being painted. And we were able to thoroughly enjoy our ACL weekend. Just look at EBear rockin' out!
Currently we are on coat 1 on the drawers, and the cabinets and doors have all been primed.
Just look at those shiny drawers. With any luck, the painting should be done on Friday. I guess, if anything, the take home message here is that oil paint is messy and smelly, so if you are ever planning on painting cabinets with oil based paint, its better to hire someone else to do it....as long as they don't dig getting high on paint :)
In other news, my teeth and almost 95 percent healed, which is great because I was starting ot miss food! And my invisiline pictures just came in. I approved and decided to order and pay the old fashioned american way...on credit! But its interest free!
In gutter news, the downspouts have yet to be put in and ground around the french drain still needs to be leveled....lets hope it doesn't rain!

Floors!
First off I apologize if this update is a little strange, but after a weekend of vomiting the hydrocodone has finally decided to be my friend. Yea! The bad news is I am still stuck eating snack packs and apple sauce for dinner. But if my baby tooth ever falls out, I now have a solution!
After the floors were poorly patched on Friday, they were redone today...and they look great! Our kitchen actually is starting to look like a kitchen again. We are due to have the cabinets painted Wednesday and hopefully we can get granite sometime next week. I might actually be able to use the kitchen in less than a month!
Eddie also installed gutters and a French drain while I was out of commission this weekend. Although the gutters are hung, there are no downspouts yet. The gutters have not been tested yet, hopefully they will work great.
Look at those gutters!

And. We. Have. CABINETS!!!
The moment I thought would never arrive....has arrived! Who would have thought? Yesterday our cabinets were delivered and today they were partially installed. The cabinet guy needs to come back tomorrow to finish up...but today it looks like I have a kitchen again! No longer an empty room, but a kitchen, with cabinets!
Cabinets have arrived! And they took up the entire kitchen.

Butters is also happy to have cabinets. He found a new sleeping spot....for now.
With the cabinets a reality, I realized that I now need to actually make decisions on paint, granite, and tile! We have decided to stick with subway tile to keep the space feeling neutral, but I have yet to make a paint decision. I also found out what my problem is: I like way too many colors. Would it be tacky to have a rainbow colored room?
I really like the color on the left and the color two in from the left...now we are thinking of painting the living room blue and then painting the kitchen another color, but what color. EBear is convinced that green = hospitals, schools, and insane asylums. But I like the green with the turquoise and it matches my plates! Then I was thinking about the yellow because I found some blue and yellow curtains at urban outfitters....then I was thinking the coral (bright one in the center) would be really neat...especially with the dark blue. Then I looked at the Sherwin Williams color book thing and it was all over...I found at least double the colors I like. This is when limited choices can be a benefit!
In other house news, the Hermine damage is NOT covered under our insurance, so it looks like we will have numerous DIY projects occurring so we can save some $$. EBear is going to install gutters and a french drain where the house got water so hopefully the problem will not occur again.
In good house news, our grass in the back yard is actually growing back. In a few years time we might actually have a proper lawn.
Ziggy loves grass.....and sprinklers.
Anywho, I will be "sick" this weekend since I am getting some oral surgery done. Hopefully the dentist gives me enough vicodin to sleep through the goings on at the house on Friday :)

I think my cabinets have become a far away fantasy
What are these cabinet people on! I checked Ebear's email (no, I don't snoop...really! I was...just...you know...logging him out) and apparently the cabinet guy was out of town...again. How many times can a person go out of town in a one month span when they build things in a shop for a living. He should be working on the cabinets this week and they will be ready to install next week...so basically our cabinets will be made in one weeks time....why couldn't this one week of time happened one month ago? Sigh.
I guess it months more of eating out for us, which can't be good for our waistlines. Today we went to Cherrywood Coffee House for dinner and EBear thoroughly confused the ladies by ordering two entrees. When the lady brought our food, she asked if someone else would be joining us. And while EBear seemed to struggle at the end, he did manage to eat two pork tacos and one double cheeseburger. Let the bloating and heartburn begin!
